Meet ISABELLA!  I am a beautiful one year old Landseer Newfoundland.  Most people aren't familiar with my black and white coloring, which makes me rather unusual, but not necessarily rare.  My breed has a rich history - in fact, one of my ancestors traveled with Lewis and Clark during their great American Expedition.  Sometimes folks get confused when they see me and think I am a minature shetland pony!  I can assure you - I am all dog....all 125 pounds of me.

Things I Have Learned from Humans:   I have learned there are rules to follow and for good reason - not only to protect myself, but my family and friends.  Since I am a bigger girl, it's always "safety first" by knowing my boundaries and remembering to be obedient and considerate at all times.

Things My Owner Has Learned from Me:  Love is a two-way street, and you get out of any relationship (even a human-to-canine one!)  what you put into it.  Great dogs come from great owners - they are not simply born or bred that way.  It takes hard work, time, education and dedication - but the payoff in the end far outweighs the effort.

Favorite Trick:  Getting my own ice cubes from the refrigerator front door dispenser.  It's just my height, and I use my snout to push the button whenever I want a cool treat.  Other than that, I can speak on command, give high fives, and drop to the ground to roll over in a second flat!
Favorite Treat:  Going on a walk with my Mom and Dad (it's actually my Mom's daily form of therapy).  I am very food motivated, so it would take less time to list the treats I don't like - carrots and raw potatoes.

Make No Bones About It...I Am a Great Therapy Dog Because... Although I am not human, somehow I am able to understand the power of giving back.   I will show you kindness, compassion and love without asking and without receiving anything in return.  I am loyal and fun loving, but when my therapy dog vest goes on - I understand it's time to "get to work" and make a difference in the life of someone who needs it.

My Favorite Places to Visit:  The Barber National Institute, Pleasant Ridge Manor Girard.  My volunteer handler is named Pat.
